This unique Yangon sightseeing tour takes you beyond the bustling city to explore the tranquil rural landscapes along the Yangon River. Visit Thanlyin, a historic former port town rich in heritage and home to quiet, lesser-known religious attractions off the typical tourist path. Then cross the river to Dala via a short local ferry ride, where you can explore the area by trishaw or tuk-tuk and experience authentic village life.
Full Itinerary
Good morning! We will pick you up at your Yangon hotel and drive about one hour to the charming town of Thanlyin, a historic former port town, crossing the Thanlyin Bridge over the Yangon River.
Start the day with a boat visit to Kyauktan Ye Le Pagoda, a small but very ancient pagoda set on a tiny river island. Enshrining multiple sacred Buddha relics, it has withstood the tides for centuries and offers ample space for visitors. Beyond its historical and architectural significance, Ye Le Pagoda is a revered site of faith and merit-making, providing a unique and memorable experience in the heart of the water.
Next, we will visit the stunning Kyike Khauk Pagoda, a 2,000-year-old hilltop stupa considered the tallest golden stupa in Thanlyin and believed to enshrine two sacred hair relics of the Buddha. From there, you can enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding area before exploring the riverside market, where you can observe local life and traditional commerce.
Afterwards, return to Yangon for lunch at a local restaurant, then continue to Nanthida Jetty for a ferry trip to Dala. Although the new Dala Bridge allows road access, we will take the ferry for a scenic and authentic experience to enjoy views of river traffic and daily life along the Yangon River.
In Dala, we will explore the town by trishaw or tuk-tuk, immersing ourself in traditional village life, fishing activities, local markets, and the daily routines of the community. On the return ferry to Yangon, we will watch the sunset over the river, a perfect way to conclude the day.
Finally, we will drop you off at your hotel in Yangon.
