Upon arrival, climb 777 steps barefoot to reach Popa Taungkalat Monastery and the temple complex perched atop a volcanic plug. Along the way, admire panoramic views of the surrounding plains and encounter playful macaque monkeys that inhabit the steps, adding a touch of local wildlife to your journey. Explore the base of the mountain, home to the 37 Mahagiri Nats, to gain insight into Myanmar’s unique blend of Buddhism and Nat worship.
